I asked the question last week. No useful answers. I should have just check wiki in the first place:
In 1999, after seeing an official Franklin & Marshall sweatshirt, a company[5] based in Verona, Italy began producing clothing in a vintage 1950's collegiate-style with the words "Franklin and Marshall" on them. F&M alumni began to report seeing F&M merchandise for sale in Europe, which puzzled the college.[6]
In 2001, Tim McGraw posed for publicity photos wearing a "Franklin Marshall Wrestling" t-shirt[7], one of which was included in the CD booklet for his album Set This Circus Down. When the college became flooded with inquires about its (nonexistent) connection to the singer, they began to investigate further and discovered that the Franklin Marshall Clothing company was using its name without permission.
In 2003, after lengthy discussions, the college decided not to sue and instead agreed to accept a licensing fee from the company so that they could continue to produce their products, which had begun to gain popularity with youth, especially in the United Kingdom.[8]
Today, the line is sold in upscale stores, such as Bloomingdales and, as part of the agreement with the college, at the Franklin and Marshall College bookstore.[9] However, many of the designs omit Franklin & Marshall's ampersand and instead reads simply "Franklin Marshall." The clothing company also opened a flagship store in Milan, and another shop in Paris.

I've seen quite a bit of it on the young teenagers lately. It appears to have replaced Abercrombie & Fitch as the " Must Have " cool clothing for the spoilt rich kids in my neighbourhood. Prices are way over the top, €40 for a cap, €60 for Tee shirt, €80 Polo shirt, €100+ for a hoodie. Therein lies the problem with today's young society. These kids assume because their parents can afford to pay these prices, that it gives them exclusivity and sets them apart from the rest of Irish Teenage society. When the masses have begun to imitate them, they will drop that brand and move onto something else. prior to A&F it was all Gant brand. It has little to do with Franklin Marshall school in Pennsylvania, except for the fact that fees there are $50,000 a year and the brand are replicas of the sports gear which the school used in the cool 1950's " Happy Days " era. I'm sure that the school is not loosing out on the massive money available from the manufacturers for the marketing " Image Rights "
