i do not yet have a drivers license and i do not always want to take my passport with me to identify myself. is there an ID or an Identity card in ireland? if, then how can i get one

It isn't an identity card, but there is something called the "Garda Age Card" issued by the Gardai (the police). It's SOLE purpose is proving your age to buy alcohol. It can't be used for anything else (although most nightclubs, etc. will accept it as proof of age to gain entry to the premises in the first place too).



To apply for one, you'll need to supply an original birth certificate and a form of photographic identification (such as your passport).

Yes, you can apply for a Garda ID by going to your local garda station. You'll need a passport sized picture and birth cert.



I think it costs 6 euro as well, it's probably gone up since..bring a tenner.
