Question about an Irish freeview box?
I bought a Technika Freeview HD box in a Republic of Ireland Tesco supermarket. It promises 50 freeview channels, hd channels, and interactive content via 'channel zero'. I hooked up the FREEVIEW box to our big lcd in the sittingroom to test it, because my mum is planning on getting rid of her Sky subscription! All we got on it was RTE One, RTE Two, TV3, TG4, RTE News Now, 3e, RTEjr and RTE One + 1. There is also a Digital TV Guide on it and a digital version of RTE Aertel, so effectively it provides the SAORVIEW service, hold on a second, did I not just purchase a FREEVIEW BOX that I payed €84 Euros for, I know use it in my room instead, it's good for my room cause I only had TV3 before and it is a small lightweight box so I should be able to move it about to Uni and such and such. So how do I get the BBC channels on it, as advertised? And when will Ireland add more channels to the freeview bar the 8 channels? In my room I just use my portable aerial for it, and I can't get HD as I aint got HD Tv? So the main question, how do I get the 50 English channels????????????????

Why do you refer to them as 'English' channels? BBC stands for BRITISH Broadcasting Corporation. If it was English it would be called the EBC.

So stop being so ignorant.

as other said you cant i work in Argos part time in NI and we always have to tell people the freeview boxes don't work down south, otherwise we'd just have people back complaining about something that will never work any way. I'm sure some do work close to border but i judge by the accents they are from further afield! most people have to stick with sky im not a techy though I'm sure there's a way around it.

Pity i get all freeview+ channels and all of what you get build into tv with no extra charge for rte licence.

84 euro !! thats robbery

You can't.

Freeview isn't available in Ireland, unless you live near the border. All these channels aren't available free to air here.

Tesco is torture for selling English stuff that doesn't work here. I bought a phone from from Tesco in Letterkenny (Republic of Ireland) and it had an English plug on it. You could take it back and argue your case that it was missold with misleading statements on the box, but no guarantee you'll get anywhere..

You need a wideband aerial on the roof aligned to the nearest transmitter. Nothing wrong with the box it is the aerial. A portable aerial is not strong enough.

I suggest you google digital signals/switchover in your area. You will also have the same problems when you go to Uni.
