The easiest way to call any number in any country without having to worry about access codes is to enter numbers in your contacts using what is called E.164 numbering which is the International standard numbering plan for telephone switches.

I live in the US and I travel frequently in Europe and the Middle East and I have local sims and and have different rules so I have simplified calling by doing the following.

All US numbers are entered as follows +12125551234 for 212 5551234 and Irish numbers as follows +353865551234 for 0865551234 and +35319676767 for 019676767 I have some friends with UK numbers and those lead with +44xxxxxxx.

You now do not have to dial 011 or 00 and if roaming don't have to remember any * code to be able to place a call.

When you call from anywhere to anyone using this + country city code number format it just works and you avoid those announcements in a foreign language or funky tones that are unfamiliar.

The rule is + & country code & city code (remove the leading zero) & phone number

If you are in Ireland and wish to call your friend who is 0865551234 change their number to +353865551234 save it and then call.

Good Luck.

If I am reading your question right you want to ring someone who has an Irish mobile phone but they are in England at the moment. If so then you just ring the number as normal, if its not working maybe you could try sending a text message and see what happens.

To ring the number put 00353 before the number, so if the number is 086964222, you would ring 0035386etc

However, we have found that for whatever reason you can't ring some Irish mobiles when they're in the UK - my younger brother is with 02 and he can't use his phone when he's in the UK.

When I was out of Ireland and had run out of credit, I could still receive texts. I couldn't send any, though. Try sending a message.

I have no problem calling Irish 086 or 087 numbers while they are in UK, but I can't connect with 085. Maybe the network is not as available in UK.

If you just get an engaged tone then more than likely the number you're trying to reach is out of credit as they need credit to recieve a call as they are roaming.

The same way you would if it was in Ireland.

If it's 086, then 00 353 86 .....
